-- A total of 544 enthusiastic volunteers support espoused the event --

Hong Kong– Some 544 staff, insurance/financial advisors and customers of Manulife (International) Limited volunteered to play a part in the company-wide blood-donation drive on May 27, 2004. Manulife has been partnering for years with the Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service in support of its corporate blood donation program.

“As a caring company, Manulife is committed to participating in meaningful causes to help those in need,” said Mr. Michael Huddart, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Hong Kong, Manulife (International) Limited. “The blood drive has been an annual initiative in Manulife since 1979 and for each year we received overwhelming response from our staff, insurance advisors and customers. We are proud of their enthusiasm which truly reflects their devotion to helping build a loving and caring community.”

The event was held at Manulife office buildings at three locations - Manulife Tower in North Point, Manulife Plaza in Causeway Bay and Manulife Provident Funds Place in Jordan.

“We are delighted to have Manulife’s continued collaboration this year,” said Mrs. Rosalind C.H. Green, Senior Donor Recruitment Officer, Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service. “Manulife has been standing side by side with us in advocacy of blood donation for more than 20 years. We truly appreciate the Company’s unceasing support and on behalf of those needy, we sincerely thank them for their generous contribution.”

Since 1979, more than 7340 donors from Manulife have donated blood to the Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service.

The blood donation drive, a regular event in Manulife’s annual calendar, is organized by Manulife Recreational Club, which was set up in 1975 to coordinate recreational and welfare activities as well as community services for the company’s staff and insurance and financial advisors.

The Hong Kong Red Cross started its voluntary non-remunerated blood donation program in 1952. The program has increased in strength and significance over the years. At present, the Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service is the only organization to supply blood to all the hospitals in Hong Kong.
