Hong Kong– Manulife Financial (stock code: 0945), a Canadian-based leading financial- services provider, has announced the appointment of one senior executive in its Asian Division, while Manulife (International) Limited (MIL), a member of the Manulife Financial group, has also announced two senior executive appointments.
David Waples has been appointed Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, MIL, overseeing the financial functions of Manulife's operations in Hong Kong, which include financial reporting, financial planning and control, treasury and other finance-related roles. Mr. Waples is a seasoned professional with more than 25 years of experience in the finance and actuarial disciplines. He has held many senior positions in the insurance industry in Australia and Taiwan, and for the past three years was the Chief Financial Officer of a large insurer in Taiwan. An actuary by profession, Mr. Waples holds a Masters Degree in Pure Mathematics from Sydney University in Australia. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries in London and the Institute of Actuaries of Australia.
Mui Chee Leong has been appointed Assistant Vice President, Regional Information Technology Services, Asia, responsible for supervising the delivery of quality, cost-effective and high- performance IT services and system solutions to the company’s operations in Hong Kong and Asia. He will also be in charge of Manulife’s offshore IT software development centre currently under incorporation in Malaysia. An IT expert with more than 20 years of solid experience in the insurance industry, Mr. Mui was previously Regional Vice President of Information Technology with John Hancock International (Southeast Asia) Pte Ltd. He holds a Diploma in Computer Studies from Singapore Polytechnics and is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional as well as a member of the Information Technology Managers' Association.
Anna Louie has been appointed Assistant Vice President, Employee Benefits Financial and Control, MIL, responsible for product development, compliance, risk management and other financial related matters pertaining to Manulife's provident funds and group insurance business in Hong Kong. Before joining Manulife, Ms Louie worked in both Canada and Hong Kong in a variety of fields, including reinsurance, product development, valuation and financial management. Ms Louie also participated in academic program development and was Assistant Professor in actuarial science at the University of Hong Kong from 1996 to 1998. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Actuarial Science from the University of Toronto, Canada, and is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and the Canadian Institute of Actuaries. She is currently a member of the International Section Council and the China Region Committee of the Society of Actuaries.
