Beverly S. Margolian
Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer

Beverly Margolian holds the position of Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer of Manulife Financial, a newly created role with the mandate to enhance the Company’s strategic planning function and develop a structured strategic management process. Ms. Margolian’s mandate is to steer the evaluation and selection of longer-term strategies that build and maintain a sustainable competitive advantage.  Ms. Margolian is a member of the Company’s Executive and Management Committees.  

Ms. Margolian brings senior leadership capability and credibility to the Chief Strategy Officer position.  With more than 30 years of experience at Manulife, she possesses insight that can only be gained by the breadth and depth of her extensive experience.

Prior to her appointment as Chief Strategy Officer in 2011, Ms. Margolian was the Company’s first Chief Risk Officer and led the Corporate Risk Management function since its inception in 2001. In this role, she was responsible for Manulife’s Enterprise Risk Management programs, including all aspects of risk management oversight functions worldwide. This included credit, market, insurance and operational risks, as well as asset liability management and hedging operations.  Ms. Margolian chaired Manulife's Executive Risk Committee, Global Asset Liability Committee and Product Oversight Committee, and sat on the Credit Committee, Variable Annuity Hedging Oversight Committee and Finance Committee. 

Prior to Chief Risk Officer, Ms. Margolian held the position of Corporate Controller and played a key role during the Company’s demutualization process.  Ms. Margolian joined Manulife Financial in 1979 and has held several actuarial, financial and risk management positions throughout the organization.

Ms. Margolian holds an Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Toronto, is a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and the Society of Actuaries, and is a Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst.  Ms. Margolian sits on the Board of the Global Risk Institute in Financial Services, was formerly a member of the Chief Risk Officer Forum, and was a founding member of the North American Chief Risk Officer Council. As a recognized thought leader in the risk management field, Ms. Margolian has also been involved in a variety of industry and professional committees with a focus on risk and capital management activities.
